Events and Sundries
The countdown to closing begins. In theory, 7 more nights in the apartment and then on to bigger and better things. There are only around a billion more details left un-done before closing. But, this has been an exercise in Trust and the Faithful and True One has kept us, so on we go.
Work is an exercise in patience as well. My previous store was doing between $25-30,000 a week in business. My new store, is uber-lucky to do $10,000 a week. So, boredom is all the rage. Trying to keep 20 year olds "busy" when I can barely keep my eyes open, is quite the challenge.
Have been reading Learning Theology w/the Church Fathers. This has been fascinating to see, thus far, how the Fathers wrestled with the divinity and humanity of the Son and how to reconcile Scripture without descending into the madness of heresy. My favorite statements so far come from Athanasius who (to paraphrase) says that human language is of total uselessness when trying to describe God. How can that which is born of finite matter begin to talk of Him who is Infinite and beyond our feeble logic? But, in order to even make the attempt, one must begin one's theology with worship and silent reverence before one begins to make definitions.
That is such a marked contrast to the modern Western world's idea that the human mind is the end-all, be-all and if God doesn't make sense to us, then He must not be. We begin our encounter with Him full of arrogance and "scientific methods". Worship is nowhere to be found. Only humanism.
How refreshing to be released from the ineptitude of this culture, to experience the vastness and ineffible quality of God through the humble worship and thots of older, holier, and wiser men.
